How To Eat Fajitas The Right Way: You’ve Probably Been Eating It Wrong

A lot of people know what tacos are. You must have come across a number of taco stands and probably eaten some yourself. What about fajitas? Fajitas and tacos might look alike but they are completely different. A fajita is also a Spanish food but it is wrapped differently from how a taco is wrapped. Fajitas are basically grilled meat that is served on a flour tortilla; you can also serve it on a corn tortilla. The meats used can be chicken or beef and vegetarians just prefer to stick to vegetables; some non vegetarians also like to just use vegetables without adding any type of meat. The meat is cooked with pepper, onions and other condiments to enhance the flavor. Some of the condiments added to cook the meat include: shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, and others depending on your preference.

A lot of people love fajitas but sadly, they don’t eat it the right way. Most people just fold it into two like they would fold a taco but that isn’t the right way to eat this particular dish. If folding the tortilla into two isn’t the proper way to eat fajitas, how the do you eat it? Here’s how to eat fajitas

  • Olive oil

Step 3: heat a skillet with oil in it, add the chicken and leave it to cook until it turns golden. You can check if it has cooked through on each side.

Step 4: allow the chicken to cool down for a few minutes then you cut it into thin strips.

Step 5: with oil still in the skillet, add the sliced bell peppers and the sliced onions. Cook for some minutes until they are soft.

Step 6: add your cut chicken into the skillet and toss them together until they are properly mixed. Serve with your flour or corn tortilla.

This method can also serve for beef as well.

HOW TO EAT TORTILLAS PROPERLY

Because tortillas are similar to tacos, most people tend to end them the same way. There is however a technique involved when eating fajitas. The following steps shows how to eat tortillas properly

How to assemble fajitas

If you’ve prepared the ingredients, you are ready to learn how to eat fajitas. The first process involved is to heat up the tortilla in a microwave. If you don’t know how to make tortillas from scratch you can always buy the readymade ones from the store. Remove the purchased tortillas from the bag and place it in a microwaveable plate or tray. We heat up tortillas so that they can easily be folded when you add your fajitas.

The next step on how to assemble fajitas is to spread soft fillings in the middle of the tortilla; some soft fillings include guacamole, sour cream. Using a spoon, spread the filling in the middle and away from the edges of the tortilla. This filling helps to hold the other toppings in place.

Add the chicken or beef fajita that you’ve already prepared on top of the soft filling. Be careful not to put too much fajita on the tortilla so that folding would be easier and you can avoid making a mess. Add other toppings of your choice; like shredded cheese. The garnishing at this point depends on what you prefer. As you add toppings, you can fold your tortilla slightly to monitor the capacity it can still take or if it’s time to stop adding.

Once you’ve put all the ingredients, pull the bottom edge of the tortilla upward to prevent the fajita from spilling from the bottom. Fold the two sides of the tortilla over the bottom edge so they overlap each other. As you eat your fajita, make sure the side you put back on the plate is the folded side of the food. This keeps your meal tidy.

CONCLUSION

To know how to eat fajitas, you must be able to assemble and prepare the ingredients properly; although you can have already prepared ones in restaurants. To enjoy fajita, ensure that there is a variety of toppings and sauce available for use. A variety of toppings gives the fajitas a better taste.
